Mobile computer lab to deliver Computer Literacy to Western Bay of Plenty.  Working with Te Puke, Papamoa, Katikati & Greerton Libraries & support from local ISP for broadband.Course from beginner to people wanting to improve existing skills.  Evaluations indicated 46% saying the course made a change to their lives some helping to getting a job and self-confidence

Mentoring Skills:

Would not be able to offer technical IT support but would be happy to support with project planning, management and relationships.  There is a team of IT experts working alongside and would be able to gain some technical answers from them.  Karen is experienced in tertiary education tutor and manager and is also a qualified experienced business coach and mentor.

CPF Project Summary:

The Clearing House is a place to find, upload research and other information that is relevant to communities and Iwi.  Members register to upload by finding groups to work with. They use a software engine that is replicable for other projects, including use of Maori Metadata, Creative Commons, Accessibility, Carbon Footprint etc.  The project included extensive consultation with the sector, development of a Code of Practice that has principles and standards the research in communities. Estimated 300 non profit and government organisations have joined.

Mentoring Skills:

Technical help, strategic and project planning, relationship management and consultations, online strategies and methods, costing especially for technical aspects and more.  Working with community and Iwi groups

CPF Project Summary:

Wellington ICT, have been involved in many different projects throughout the communities.
Whanau Link which help incorporate laptops and networks for Hospices, e-Rider programme giving advice and technical support for community groups and organisations in Wellington, Secret Level which puts together ICT system and networks for major youth centres in Lower Hutt,  Timberlea helping put together a network for geographical community in the Upper Hutt region.

Carolyn Nodder

CPF Project Summary:

NZTRI at AUT University are partners with the Western Southland Promotions Association Incorporated project Western Southland: Podzone Country.  The project is to build on and enhance the current broadband roll-out by promoting the use of podcasting in the area. It acts as an incentive for broadband uptake.  The locally build website www.westernsouthland.co.nz now houses a series of podcasts that wee scripted, recorded, edited and uploaded by locals through seven community workshops where we trained 55 locals aged between 10 and 18 years old.  Podcast content ranges from local stories and history through to family recipes, tip for visitors and commentary on native bird watching.

Mentoring Skills:

Carolyn is a Senior Research Officer at the New Zealand Tourism Research Institute and has a great deal of experience in managing research projects.  Carolyn has a post-graduate qualification in IT Project Management and a Masters degree in Computing.  She is currently completing her PhD thesis.  She is the co-ordinator of the CPF project Western Southland: Podzone Country and is a researcher, educator and consultant.  Carolyn has taught pedagogical strategies for the use of ICT and social impact of ICT courses at both under graduate and post-graduate levels.  She is an experienced ICT trainer and facilitator and has run workshops for business and community organisations.  Carolyn has been a member of a number of commercial research and evaluation projects in New Zealand, Canada and the South and Central Pacific (including those sponsored by the European Union and the United Nations Environment Program) and has developed and delivered training and workshop programmes for groups based in Vietnam, Chile, the Pacific and New Zealand

CPF Project Summary:

• Stakeholder communication, dissemination and presentation of project outcomes.
• Dissemination of information to groups external to the community – including relevant media.
